Time may be tracked by a clock, a calendar, or an hourglass. Using photography, I have found my own way of capturing time and documenting the progression of events from the past, through the present, into the future.

This project is a series of photographs that captures the presence of absence. They are composited from carefully edited time-lapse images.

I go out wandering on the streets alone and search for places where visible tracks, footprints, signs of people and things in motion all contrast with the fixed nature of a location itself. Parking lots, train stations and crowded open areas like parks and squares are the sorts of sites I work in. The time-lapse images are made from frames of videos, however, and because of what happens in them does not necessarily communicate the feeling I want the work to have, I sort through each frame of the videos, looking for the most interesting moments. I then carefully combine them into a final image that is conceptually and compositionally layered.

In this work, it is often shadows that visualize and represent time because the composited images are made from multiple images captured at different moments. Space stays the same, but what happens within the space is constantly changing. The presence of time is reflected by the consecutive shadows of objects that are cast as time goes by. Capturing these moments and then layering them into one image creates a collection of moments from the past, but in these images, time passes, things and people come and go, and nothing is quite the same.
